Advanced Dentistry
At Family Dental Care, our advanced dentistry services combine modern technology with a thoughtful approach to address concerns that go beyond preventive care. These services are designed to treat more complex oral health conditions — such as tooth infections, bruxism, or a sudden dental injury — and enhance comfort in your day-to-day life.
Under the care of experienced Cape Coral dentist Jerry T. McClaran, DMD and our dental team, advanced dentistry services are performed with a gentle, personalized touch. We take the time to understand each patient’s symptoms, concerns, and goals before recommending treatment. By combining proven techniques with non-invasive solutions whenever possible, we are able to provide effective care for conditions that affect not only oral health, but overall well-being.
Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea is a serious condition in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep, often due to an obstruction in the airway. Left untreated, sleep apnea can contribute to daytime fatigue, cardiovascular issues, and reduced overall health.
For patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea, oral appliance therapy offers a comfortable and non-invasive treatment option. Anterior positioning devices, such as the TAP® (Thornton Adjustable Positioner) appliance, gently reposition the lower jaw forward during sleep. This forward positioning helps keep the airway open, allowing for improved airflow and a more restful sleep.
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is a tooth-saving procedure that can prevent extraction for a tooth that has been severely infected or damaged internally. When the dental pulp below a tooth becomes inflamed or infected — often due to deep decay or trauma — a root canal can eliminate pain while preserving the natural tooth.
During treatment, the infected tissue is carefully removed. The inside of the tooth is then cleaned, disinfected, and sealed. Next, the tooth is typically protected with a crown to restore long-term strength. Root canal therapy can alleviate discomfort, stop the infection from spreading, and allow patients to keep their natural enamel.
Oral Surgery (Extractions)
Oral surgery plays an important role in maintaining oral health when a tooth can no longer be saved or when removal is necessary to prevent further complications. Tooth extractions may be recommended for severe decay, advanced infection, overcrowding, or impacted teeth.
Our approach to oral surgery emphasizes comfort and clear communication. Using gentle techniques and patient-focused care, extractions are performed as efficiently and comfortably as possible. Following the procedure, patients receive thorough post-operative instructions to support healing and reduce discomfort.
“I called in the morning with a dental emergency, and they were able to get me a same-day appointment. Dr. McClaran took the time to walk me through all of my options step by step and recommended the best solution—not just the most expensive one. It was clear that my well-being came first. The front desk staff were also incredibly friendly and easy to work with. Overall, a great experience during a stressful situation.”
Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy (Scaling, Root Planing)
Healthy gums are essential to overall oral health. Non-surgical periodontal therapy can be performed at our practice to treat gum disease in its early stages, helping to control infection and prevent progression that could lead to tooth loss.
Scaling and root planing is a deep cleaning procedure that removes plaque and tartar from below the gumline, and smooths the tooth roots to encourage gum reattachment. This treatment helps reduce inflammation, bleeding, and pocket depth while promoting healthier gums. By addressing gum disease early on, non-surgical gum disease treatment can protect the foundation of your smile and support long-term dental health without the need for extractions or oral surgery.
Same-Day Emergency Visits
Dental emergencies can happen suddenly and often require immediate attention. Whether your dental emergency involves a knocked out (avulsed) tooth, unexpected pain, trauma, swelling, or broken enamel, prompt care is essential to repairing damage and preventing further complications.
Same-day emergency visits are designed to provide timely evaluation and treatment when urgent dental concerns arise. Our team prioritizes emergency cases, offering compassionate care focused on pain relief, stabilization, and clear guidance on next steps. While we understand a sudden dental emergency can be shocking, knowing help is available when you need it most can provide peace of mind and reassurance during these stressful situations.
Exceptional dentistry and quality care goes beyond routine visits and cleanings. For solutions to concerns like snoring, tooth infections, teeth grinding, or TMJ symptoms, contact Family Dental Care at our Cape Coral practice to book an appointment or to speak with a friendly member of our team.
